We have great pleasure to announce that Big Heritage have been selected by the amazing Wellcome Trust to create a new project to engage the British public with the history of medical science which will be funded through their prestigious "People Award" programme. As you've come to expect from us, there'll be some exciting twists along the way with British archaeology at the heart of our offering. We're therefore excited to be exploring the archaeology of Roman medicine through our unique "Roman Medical Roadshow".

medicaeeThe project will visit high schools across the North West as well as creating 'pop-up' events at public venues across the region. There'll be a chance for the public to assist a Roman 'Medicae' in trepanning the skull of an injured soldier, explore the osteoarchaeological evidence of operations from Roman Britain and discover which Gods you'll want to be praying to before having your piles removed!

After the completion of the tour, a long-lasting legacy will be created in the form of a DVD, website and resource packs for schools and other educational institutions. The DVD features some of the world's top Roman archaeologists and is filmed on location in a range of sites from the original Asklepion of Rome to the remote forts of Hadrian's Wall. Experts from the British Museum and the Museum of London lend their expertise to the Big Heritage team who will be presenting the exciting world of Roman Medicine in their own unique, fun and passionate style!
