Big Heritage and Cheshire West Museums were shortlisted this year at the annual Museums and Heritage Awards for Excellence. The Museums and Heritage Awards 'recognise projects of excellence, innovative and groundbreaking exhibitions from galleries and visitor attractions across the UK and Europe. These range from remarkable achievements of national institutions to projects crafted with limited resources and those championing their staff and volunteers who work hard to deliver inspiring visitor experiences'.

Big Heritage and Cheshire West Museums were short-listed in the category 'Project on a Limited Budget' for Chester Unlocked. Chester Unlocked was a ground breaking collaboration between Chester's city centre's Business Improvement District, CH1ChesterBID, Big Heritage and the Grosvenor Museum. The event programme celebrated Chester's rich and hidden history and ran from June 2015 until January 2016.

We are very pleased to announce that Chester Unlocked was Highly Commended at the awards, coming second only to Oxford University's Museum of Natural History. We are very pleased to have been nationally recognised for Chester Unlocked and we hope this is just the beginning of more collaborative heritage based projects in Chester and the region. Cheshire was well represented at the awards, as Cheshire West Museums also won the award for Restoration and Conservation for their collaborative work with BECK at the Lion Salt Works in Northwich and Chester Cathedral was also shortlisted for Trading and Enterprise.
